Hyundai, Kia rank 1st in German sales
Date
2015-11-10
Hyundai Motor Co. and smaller affiliate Kia Motors Corp. led in sales among foreign brands in Germany in October despite the overall weak demand, industry data showed Monday.

According to the data by a German automotive association, the two South Korean carmakers sold a combined 14,131 units in October, the largest monthly sales among foreign brands there.

Hyundai Motor saw its sales inch up 0.4 percent on-year to 9,084 units, while Kia Motors' sales expanded 4.2 percent over the same period to 5,047 units.

The growth comes despite a 5.2 percent decline in sales of imported cars in Germany.

German carmaker Volkswagen saw its sales shrink 0.7 percent on-year in October, suggesting that the ongoing emissions scandal involving some of its models is affecting its business at home and abroad.

The drop stood in contrast to a 4.7 percent rise in combined sales of all German brands.
